A 26-year-old man from Minneapolis has been charged with intentional second-degree murder for the shooting of a man at a Brooklyn Center hotel last week. According to the criminal complaint, officers arrived to the Super 8 Hotel around 3:30 a.m., on Aug. 22, 2013, to a report of a man bleeding and a possible shooting. Brooklyn Center police officers found the victim covered in blood, on the hotel entryway floor. The man, identified as 25-year-old Michael McGowan, of Minneapolis, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner reports McGowan died from a gunshot wound to the chest. A front desk clerk at the hotel reported hearing loud banging on multiple hotel doors, so he called police. Shortly after, the clerk found the victim on the ground. He called police again. Officers also interviewed the front desk clerk of the Days Inn, which was nearby. He told police he heard three to four gunshots in the parking lot. He also reported seeing five people run into a room at the Days Inn.

Officers were able to locate the occupants of the room. They were able to positively identify the shooting suspect as Antonio Daniels. Witnesses told police there was a fight and then Daniels fired a gun. Another witness arrived to the scene and said he heard yelling and gunshots near the Day’s Inn entrance. He also said he saw Daniels picking up shell casings near a hotel door at the Days Inn. The witnesses also identified Daniels from a photo line up. One of the witnesses said the victim called him earlier for a ride and said that people were “talking crazy" like they were trying to “rob” the victim, according to the complaint. Officers recovered a .22 caliber revolver behind a garbage can at the scene. Daniels remains in the Hennepin County Jail.
