While thousands of New Yorkers scrambled for a place to live after the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, one Queens woman saw a chance to cash in. Caterina Curatolo has been living for free in city-funded hotels since concocting a story about losing her home to the storm last year, state investigators charge. The 48 year-old Fresh Meadows woman was arrested Monday and charged by Attorney General Eric Schneiderman with fraud and grand larceny. She allegedly bilked taxpayers out of more than $87,000. Most of the funds went to 269 days in hotel rooms set aside for Sandy victims, Schneiderman said. Curatolo is also accused of misusing money given to her for food, spending at least some of it at Best Buy, Dress Barn and Marshalls.
